For Members of Provincial Parliament in the 44th Parliament
The PSPP is a contributory defined benefit (DB) plan. That means that while you are a mandatory member, you’re required to make contributions to the Plan, and the Legislative Assembly of Ontario (LAO) matches those contributions.
If you’re an MPP, we encourage you to read this page about how your contributions work and understand vesting for the 44th Parliament.
Contributions
Contributions are deducted automatically from your pay each period. We have outlined the contribution rates that apply to MPPs below:
| As of January 1, 2026 | As of April 1, 2026 |
|---|---|
| 8.3% of your salary up to the YMPE($74,600) Plus 11.50% of your salary above the YMPE |
8.7% of your salary up to the YMPE($74,600) Plus 12.0% of your salary above the YMPE |
This means that from January 1, 2026 to March 31, 2026, you contribute:
- $8.30 for every $100 you earn below the YMPE, plus
- $11.50 for every $100 you earn above the YMPE
Annual salary means the member's base salary. It includes additional pay premiums that have been deemed part of your regular salary for pension purposes. If you have questions about the salary being reported to us, please contact the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
YMPE - The Year's Maximum Pensionable Earnings (YMPE) is set by the federal government to determine how much Canadians contribute to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP). The YMPE is adjusted each year based on the average wage in Canada. For 2026, the YMPE is $74,600.
Vesting rules
Members of the 44th Parliament (MPPs who sit between January 1, 2026 and the next general election) have special transitional vesting rules. They must still hold their seat as an MPP when the Legislative Assembly is dissolved in advance of the next general election to vest in either the PSPP or the MPP SP.
The date on which vesting of benefits will occur for members of the 44th Parliament is the date of the dissolution of the 44th Parliament. The first pension benefits will be payable to MPPs in the first month following the ensuing general election.
